Recruiting
Focus group recruiting is generally recognised as being the largest pain-in-the-xxxx in market research. We aim to reduce the level of pain without the use of either surgery or drugs. We have recruited some of the most outrageous sounding focus groups as well as what may be considered the 'plain vanilla'. The types of respondent vary from a wide variety of industry and professional sectors to members of the general public. We never fail to be surprised at some of the topics that can be covered in focus groups. In recent months we have recruited focus groups of young people and their parents to talk about Chlamydia and contraception, members of a life insurance company to talk about changes in the company and its policies, groups of visitors to a Country Park to talk about their use of the Visitors' Centre, and groups of parents to discuss the use of vitamins for children. We have also successfully recruited highly targeted hard-to-reach focus groups.
Respondents
For professional/business focus groups we are sometimes asked to recruit from lists provided by the client. All other focus groups are cold-call recruited to the specification of the project provided by the client. We do not use databases or panels for our recruitment.
National coverage
These groups have been recruited at various locations throughout the UK. We have highly experienced recruiters based at strategic points in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Eire and provide truly national coverage.
Locations and viewing facilities
We can organise focus groups in client premises and hotels and we can also help clients to locate suitable viewing facilities where they can observe and record the whole of the focus group for later analysis and feedback.
Moderating
Whilst our main focus is on the recruiting of groups, we have access to a network of highly
experienced moderators. Again, we are able to offer this service nationally. We often find that clients need some extra-hands-on-deck for large scale projects to supplement their own in-house moderating staff. A summary report including verbatim quotes is produced for each focus group.
Reporting
Many clients will carry out both their own moderating and write their own reports, however our moderators are highly skilled at interpreting their focus groups and by using audio and video recordings they are used to preparing reports based on all focus groups conducted as part of a programme.
