Street survey ~ service description

Street surveys - aka face-to-face or clipboard surveys - are probably the clearest perceptions people have of market research. Our interviewers will happily work in areas where they can most easily make contact with their target respondents. This might be on a high street, in a shopping mall, near car parks or railway stations. If you have ever been approached to participate in a street survey - and we hope you said yes! -you will know that there is a limit to how long you can expect people to stand and answer questions especially on a wet and windy street. We are always happy to give advice on the practicality of a street survey and have experience of working with clients to make the questionnaire more accessible and shorter so that a questionnaire can be completed in a realistic timeframe.

Cost effectiveness
A street survey is often the most cost effective means of carrying out an interview. Being in visual contact means that a respondent can be selected to meet quota: for example on the basis of age, gender or socio economic group. This can require special skills especially when dealing with BME groups. Responses received are genuinely 'top of mind' and will provide a clear spontaneous response to research topics.

We have interviewed in shops and shopping centres, retail parks, outside supermarkets, airports, exhibition centres, sporting venues, parks & leisure centres. Our interviewers are trained to avoid disruption wherever they are working. On one occasion, during the Foot & Mouth emergency, we even interviewed in a field, giving a whole new slant on the concept of fieldwork.

Quota
We will work with you to establish relevant and achievable quota for your survey. We can advise on the number of street interviews you will need to achieve a defined level of statistical reliability. We monitor quotas achieved throughout the duration of the project to ensure your research objectives are met.
